A one of a kind early set in this quality condition is very rare. Looks great for the holidays.

Earliest backmark for Haviland & Company. It has the raised bar with Haviland impressed, on the pot only. This set is in marvelous condition for being over 150 years old. Only the very tip of the finial on the lid has a slight wearing of the gold, otherwise it looks like new. Set consists of the pot, 4 cups/saucers, 4 tea plates and 1 cake plate. No chips or cracks or worn gold, a few black firing marks which happened in the early firings. The hand painted flowers in red and green are so perfectly executed by a factory artist that they look like decals. However, the factory was doing only hand painted work at that time. Decals didn't come into play until 1870s. The flowers resemble a lipstick plant. The pot and cups/saucers are heavy crockery style of 1850s, plates are thinner. In early sets, only the serving pieces or pots were backmarked because of the type of marking. This is a one-of-a-kind set and would look great on a holiday table.
