Havelock Ellis. English scientist who gave up medical practice to devote himself to research. His seven volumes based on his study of the psychology of sex appeared from 1897 to 1928. Author of Love and Marriage, Psychology of Sex, etc. His own marriage was unique: he resided in the city, his wife on a farm. Archive of about 181 pieces: 1 A.L.S.; 1 note in Ellis' hand at top of a document; Ellis' signature on three legal documents; copyright with seal for one of his books; six royalty receipts; copy of review of Psychology of Sex recommending it become a textbook for medical students. Also various letters, copies of letters (some from Ellis), documents, photos of Ellis, ads for his books, three-page letter on his last illness from caretaker, numerous papers on copyrights, taxes, royalties, contracts, and legal matters, from 1933 to 1977. Some defects, but generally good-fine. With Ellis' classic study, in three editions, of his book Psychology of Sex, each with dust jacket, cloth, 377 pp., comprising: 1) Signed copy. Emerson Books, N.Y., 1938. Toning at front and back hinges, else fine. Signature on verso of title page. 2) 1933, First Edition, Long & Smith, N.Y. 3) 1937, 7th printing. Auction lots are described carefully and conscientiously; however, they must understandably and necessarily be “as is” due to the multitude of factors associated with their character. Consignors have guaranteed correct provenance.<Br><Br>
As an auction is not an approval sale, lots are not returnable except for reason of authenticity.
Should a question arise as to authenticity, we must be notified by registered or certified mail within 5 days of delivery. We are not responsible for any claim whatsoever received after such date. Refund will be made, upon return of the item to us within 7 days of notification, in the same condition as shipped. We shall be the sole determiner of the sameness of the state of an item at time of shipment and its return, respectively. For protection of consignors’ property, lots are not returnable for any other reason. No lot consisting of 5 or more items is returnable.<Br><Br>
Refund in such case is by same payment method as originally made by bidder. In event of payment by credit card, prevailing merchant bank fees originally incurred shall be deducted from refund to credit card account. We are not responsible for variation in statement closing dates. Should bidder dispute original charge, notwithstanding forthcoming refund, it is understood that bidder shall repay chargeback and other costs.
Because we act as agents for numerous consignors, claims must be made before we have settled with them. Consideration cannot be given in event of late payment, consignee’s absence at time of delivery, or for other reason.<Br><Br>

The underlying auction in which you are bidding is Cohasco, Inc.’s traditional mail-telephone auction.
Cohasco, Inc. has been in business for 60 years, originally in lower Manhattan, and presently in Yonkers, located on the New York City line.<Br><Br>
We believe we are today the second oldest full-time autograph and manuscript dealer in North America.
You will be doing business with an old-fashioned firm. This is not a part-time hobby, nor are we newcomers. Of the more than six hundred lots in this auction - containing thousands of pieces, we have photographed about 75 interesting items.<Br><Br>
Many items do not lend themselves to photography. Others are large lots.
And others still are formats which are familiar to collectors.<Br><Br>
Should you desire an illustration of an item which is not shown, please supply your e-mail, as well as fax and postal address. Depending upon the time remaining before closing date, we will endeavor to supply an illustration by one of those means.<Br><Br>
Please note that in some cases, it will not be possible to supply an illustration. This would include large lots of common material, oversize items, items which are especially delicate, items whose colors or inks will not copy successfully, items of a character which is ubiquitously known, and others. The failure of a bidder to request an illustration, or our inability to supply one, shall not be the basis for cancellation of a bid or return of a lot.<Br><Br>
