American composer and lyricist (1893-1981). He was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Song eleven times and won three Oscars. He wrote the music for the first blockbuster film musical, 42nd Street. Two Four Jays Music Publishing Company business checks, both 7.25 x 3, both from 1960, and both filled out in another hand and signed by Warren. One check is made out to the Cole Porter Research Fund, and the other to Chappell and Co., with memo stating “royalty payment for Ira Gershwin.” Expected stamps and holes, with light show-through from stamps under signatures, a vertical fold to one, and a pencil notation under one signature, otherwise fine condition.
