14 3/4" by 13 1/2". Harry Oomyun Shavings (1909 - 1989) was active/lived in Alaska. Harry Shavings is known for Inuit art. Harry Oomyun Shavings, 80, an Anchorage carver, died at Alaska Native Medical Center. A funeral service was held at the Evangelical Covenant Church with the Rev. Jerry Daniels officiating. A visitation preceded the service. Mr. Shavings was born July 22, 1909, on Nunivak Island, where he lived until moving to Anchorage in 1975. He was a wood and ivory carver and had served in the Alaska Territorial Guard and the National Guard. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. He leaves his wife, Susie, of Anchorage; his daughters, Gertie Russi, Mary Shavings and Karen Shavings, both of Anchorage, and Lillian Lindgren, of California; his sons, Silas Shavings, of Anchorage, and Samuel Shavings, of Mekoyuk; his brothers, Frank and Henry, both of Bethel, and Edward, of Mekoryuk; 11 grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. Burial was in the Anchorage Memorial Park Cemetery following the service.
