DS as president, one page, 8 x 10.5, no date. Official citation for the Medal of Freedom, in full: "Mr. Gordon Thorpe Jackson, American Red Cross, rendered meritorious service from November 1943 to February 1944, in Italy, as Field Director with the 1st Ranger Battalion. During the bitter fighting on the Anzio beachhead, he provided comfort items. On numerous occasions, he voluntarily delivered mail and Red Cross items to front line companies. He assisted chaplains and the medical officers in administering to the spiritual and physical needs of battle weary soldiers, and when the tactical situation permitted, he established a rest center in some abandoned buildings, equipped them with bedding, writing materials, toilet articles and other comforts. Mr. Jackson's work was characterized by cheerful assumption of his responsibilities to the American combat soldier he served, and reflect great credit on himself and the American Red Cross." In fine condition, with toning from prior display and rusty paperclip stains to the upper left corner.
