World War II-dated TLS, one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, April 2, 1942. Letter to Joseph Guller, in full: “Replying to your letter of the Twenty-sixth you are to be congratulated on your desire to be of service during the present emergency, but until present restrictions are removed, I don’t think there is a chance for you to get your commission reinstated, and political interference in the matter is likely to do your case more harm than good. The War Department is not penalizing you any more than they are penalizing a large number of former officers I know who are in the same position as you. There is a set of regulations now in force, and until there is a change of some kind, nothing can be done about it. Before this was is over, I think nearly every one who has had a Reserve commission will eventually get it reinstated, and if I were you I would wait until that happens. I am returning the enclosure in your letter.” In very good to fine condition, with staple holes and file holes to the edges.
