TLS signed “Harry,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Senate letterhead, June 4, 1941. Letter to Martin Lewis, in full: “I called the War Department and talked to our friends down there and they told me the matter in which you were interested was in the hands of Lt. Col. Fred W. Herman, Engineer for the Seventh Corps Area at Omaha. I don’t know whether it is a buck passing proposition or not. That is the way it usually is handled in the Army, and when we want to know something it is in the hands of some one else who cannot be found.” Truman adds a brief handwritten postscript, “Hope to see you next week.” Encapsulated in a Mylar sleeve. In fine condition, with intersecting folds (one horizontal fold passing through the first letter of the signature), a spot of soiling, and trivial toning and creasing. A desirable letter featuring one of Truman’s famous phrases.
