Dipping pen used by President Truman to sign a bill to increase compensation for family hardships caused by deaths in the military passed by the House of Representatives on June 14, 1948. The black wooden pen measures 8? long and features a cork grip, with the manufacturer’s stamp on the side, reading, “1015 Eagle Cortex, Made U. S. A.” Includes the transmittal letter sent by Secretary to the President Matthew J. Connelly to Mr. W. M. Floyd, national commander of the Regular Veterans Association. In full: “Complying with your request, I have pleasure in sending you herewith one of the pens used by the President on July first in approving: S. 2825, ‘An Act to increase the rates of service-connected death compensation payable to certain widows, children and dependent parents of persons who served in the active military or naval service, and for other purposes.” Mounted, matted, and framed together to an overall size of 10 x 13.
