Signed book: Memoirs (Year of Decisions and Years of Trial and Hope) in two volumes. First edition. Garden City: Doubleday & Company, 1956. Hardcover with dustjacket, 6 x 8.5, 594 plus 596 pages. Signed and inscribed in black ballpoint on both half-title pages, “To Paul Henning from Harry S. Truman.” Paul Henning (1911-2005) was a producer and writer, most famous for the successful sitcom The Beverly Hillbillies, he was crucial in the development of several "rural" comedies for CBS. Henning was born on a farm and grew up in Independence, Missouri. While working in a drugstore as a teenager, he met future President Harry S. Truman, who advised him to become a lawyer. In fine condition, with Henning’s personal bookplates affixed to inside front covers of both volumes and a bit of trivial wear to covers.
