Signed book: Report of the Commission on the Renovation of the Executive Mansion. Washington, D. C.: US Government Printing Office, 1952. Hardcover, 8.5 x 11, 109 pages. Signed on the first free end page, “Independence, Missouri, March 14, 1955. This was quite a job – but it should be good for several generations unless someone blows it up! Harry S. Truman,” and also signed and inscribed in black felt tip by Gerald Ford, dated February 28, 1981, and in black ink by Jimmy Carter, dated 1984. Page also bears secretarial signatures and inscriptions of John F. Kennedy and Richard Nixon, as well as a Lyndon B. Johnson secretarial signature. Page is also signed by Richard Dougherty. In very good condition, with scattered toning to signed page, owner’s bookplate affixed to front pastedown, partial separation to front hinge, binding a bit lose, light wear to boards, and scattered wear and fraying to spine, mostly to head and tail. Accompanied by several pieces of correspondence from the collector to the various signees. In 1948 Truman added a second floor balcony to the south portico, and shortly after, engineers deemed most of the White House structurally unsound, and the building was gutted and rebuilt from 1949–1952.
