TLS as president, one page, 7 x 9, White House letterhead, September 21, 1949. President Truman contacts C. Raymond Long, publisher of the Courier-News in Elgin, Illinois, on the newspaper’s anniversary. In part: “I want to congratulate you and your associates most cordially on the COURIER-NEWS’ attainment of this significant milestone in its career. I say ‘significant’ because the very fact that the paper has lived and flourished for so long is evidence of real service to its community.” In fine condition, with light creasing and wrinkling, and a pencil notation at the top. Accompanied by an unsigned engraving.
