TLS, one page, 6.25 x 8.75, personal letterhead, February 27, 1958. Letter to the Hon. Felton M. Johnson, secretary of the United States Senate. In full: "You do not know how very much I appreciated your kindness to me in Washington. I felt just as I did when I was a United States Senator and used that office of yours as a sort of educational center. The story you told was one of the best I have ever heard. I hope I will receive the same invitation every time I come to Washington, because the years I spent in the Senate were the happiest ones of my life." Double-matted and framed to an overall size of 14 x 17. In fine condition, with scattered light staining.

Provenance: from the estate of Senator Carl Levin. A lifelong Democrat, ardent advocate for civil rights, and staple of the United States Senate from 1979 to 2015, Senator Levin was also a longtime client of RR Auction. As a collector, he favored his political heroes"”Harry S. Truman, Franklin and Eleanor Roosevelt, and Martin Luther King, Jr."”as well as those figures emblematic of the American spirit, like Robert Frost, Joe Louis, and Helen Keller.
