Harry S. Truman: Possibly Unique WWI Soldier's Letter, Censored by Captain Truman on Both Envelope and Letter. Paul F. Sieben, who served under Truman, wrote his parents on November 11, 1918, to tell them the War had ended. As was the policy in the American Expeditionary Force, his commanding officer, Truman, was required to censor outgoing soldier's mail and sign off on both letter and envelope. According to the consignor, the Truman Library does not even have an example, and in years of collecting he never saw another for sale. The signature on the letter, with Truman's rank, appears at the end, and is in light pencil, but readable. The envelope is postmarked over his signature, but it is clearly present although partially covered. These unique pieces have been expensively custom framed to 21" x 33" along with a facsimile copy of Truman's WWI identity card.

Shipping: Framed - with Glass, Medium (view shipping information)
