Prolific American songwriter (1895–1974) whose works, many of which were prominently featured in the films of the Marx Brothers and Eddie Cantor, include such standards as ‘I Wanna Be Loved by You’ and ‘Three Little Words.’ TLS signed “Harry,” one page, 6.5 x 5.5, personal letterhead, April 6, 1965. Letter to director George Cukor. In part (spelling and grammar retained): “Congratulations on getting the Oscar for your fine work in the movie: My Fairlady…I also have an idea I am a very lousy typist. and I hope you can read this. It was great seeing you—and Jack Warner—and all the others get Oscars. And it is merited.. even though I have yet to see the movie.. But I will see it right away. From what I hear about it, it is one of the GREATS.” In fine condition.
