Signed book: The Unmasking of Robert–Houdin. First edition. NY: The Publishers Printing Company, 1908. Hardcover, 5.75 x 8.25, 319 pages. Signed and inscribed on the front pastedown in ink, "To Miss Henrietta Ankers, with best wishes of the author, Harry Handcuff Houdini, August 9/1910." Autographic condition: very good to fine, with central vertical creases. Book condition: G/None, with a central vertical crease to front board, edgewear, wear to bumped corners, and partial illustration listing and index curiously tipped into the front (both incomplete). Houdini billed this controversial book as ‘the first authentic history of magic ever published,’ and contained within it an unflattering account of Houdini's legendary predecessor and namesake Jean Eugene Robert-Houdin, alleging that he had taken undue credit for other magicians’ innovations.
