TLS signed “H. E. Yarnell,” one page, 8 x 10.5, United States Asiatic Fleet letterhead, November 28, 1937. Letter to Dr. W. A. Lomas, in part: "This war in the Far East is a terrible thing. My sympathies are with the Chinese, since their territory has been invaded by a country which has been contemplating this action for years and has made all the military preparations. Before this war China was making gallant and fairly successful efforts to become a united nation. Great things had been planned and some of them were underway for the benefit of the country and the people. A strong and stable China would have been a great factor in furthering the peace of the world. Unfortunately now this is all ended and what the final outcome will be no one knows. Japan's aim is to dominate all of China and to oust all Americans and Europeans from this area. She may possibly succeed." In very good to fine condition, with areas of light toning, and creasing along the right edge. Accompanied by the original mailing envelope.
