Harry Cohn Personal Christmas Card
Harry Cohn, best known as “King Cohn”, was the legendary and many say monstrous and intimidating “bully” president of Columbia Studios. In fact, he fashioned his office (complete with a towering desk) on Mussolini’s, whom he resembled in both statue and temperament. Cohn turned what was known as that “chicken farm of a studio on Gower Gulch” into one of the most respected and successful studios in the Industry. He was, in fact, allegedly the inspiration for the “horse in the bed” Studio Head, Jack Woltz, in “The Godfather”. In fact when he died in 1958, Cohn was the subject of the famous quote from Red Skelton, who remarked of Cohn's well-attended funeral, "It proves what Harry always said, give the public what they want and they'll come out for it." In fact the majority of those who attended the funeral were there because they wanted proof that Harry Cohn was indeed dead! Many a star, director, writer and producer had literally fist to fist confrontations with him, including Van Johnson. However, business was business, and if you made money for Columbia, all was forgiven. This is an extremely rare actual Christmas Card from Harry Cohn sent to Van Johnson. It comes directly from the Van Johnson Estate Collection and includes a Letter of Provenience from his daughter, Schuyler Johnson along with a copy of her famous controversial cover story article “My Life As A Hollywood Princess”, about her trials and tribulations growing up in Beverly Hills with a superstar father and extended “family” with some of the most famous celebrities in the world.
