Harry Carey, Jr.'s Personal Kelly Bros. Spurs. Special order Kelly Bros maker-marked Texas spurs with swinging buttons, 2 1/2" six point rowels and "DOBEY" engraved on the mustache mounting. Spurs are in very fine condition with later-made basket-stamped two-piece leathers. PROVENANCE: Carey Family Trust. Harry Carey Jr. was nicknamed "Dobe" because of his red hair, the color of adobe. He also appeared as a character named "Dobey" in the 1946 movie, "Rolling Home" starring Jean Parker and Russell Hayden. This was the first film Harry Carey, Jr. appeared in as an adult, and came about when the just-discharged-from-the-Navy Carey Jr. ran into producer William Berke on an Hollywood street corner. Berke, who had produced six sound westerns in the mid-30s starring the elder Carey, offered Carey junior a bit in the film. The first film Harry Carey, Jr. ever appeared in was in 1921, as an infant in one of his father's silent westerns.
