Harrington & Richardson .32 Auto Ejector Revolver
Harrington & Richardson .32 S&W Center Fire caliber Police Auto Ejecting Model revolver with correct “flat spurless” hammer, serial number 116010 made 1905-1908. These were high quality revolvers intended to compete with similar models by Colt and Smith & Wesson, although the spurless hammer was not offered by either company. The purpose of the special hammer was to avoid snagging on pockets or clothing when drawn. As these were pocket sized weapons, they were seldom carried in holsters. Instead they were about perfect for concealed coat pocket or purse carry. This model was made for smokeless cartridges, as opposed to earlier models intended for black powder, and found greatfavor as back-up guns for police as well as urban dwellers as a means of unobtrusive protection from thugs. When found today, most of this type revolver show heavy carry wear and often are in unserviceable condition. This nickel plated, six shot example functions perfectly and was designed to be used double action, in which a single pull of the hammer revolves the cylinder, brings the hammer back and then forward to fire a cartridge. As such, it was very fast to fire multiple shots in a short period of time. The top of the barrel has the correct Harrington and Richardson markings plus patent dates ending in 1896. The left side of the barrel assembly is correctly stamped “AUTO EJECTING .32 S&W CTGE” This revolver was given the name “Auto Ejecting” because when the rear sight/barrel catch is lifted and the barrel assembly pushed down, the ejector automatically pushes the empty shells from the cylinder and then snaps back in place for reloading. This mechanism works perfectly on this example. The bore in generally fine with strong rifling all the way through. It also retains a good portion of original nickel finish. The original hard rubber grips are excellent without chips or cracks. The barrel, cylinder and frame serial numbers match. A finely made revolver from one of America’s most prolific firearms manufacturers of the early 20th Century. Serial Number: 116010. This firearm qualifies as a Curio & Relic firearm, and requires FFL Transfer or NICS Background Check.
