Author and abolitionist (1811–1896) whose novel Uncle Tom’s Cabin brought the issue of slavery to the forefront of American consciousness and became a classic of 19th century literature. Outstanding ALS, one page, 4.5 x 7, May 18, 1894. Letter to an admirer. In part: “I commenced the writing of Uncle Tom’s Cabin in June 1851, in March of the following year 1852 it was issued in book form, the writing occupying me just nine months.” In fine condition. An extraordinarily desirable letter as it is boldly penned and contains a direct reference to her immensely influential book.
