Harpers Ferry Model 1841 Mississippi rifle in .54 caliber with folding long-range style rear sight and mounts for saber bayonet remaining in very good plus original condition. The rifle is dated 1849 on the lock and shows a full complement ofmilitary inspections including W. C. K. who Bill Gary identifies as the Adjutant General William C. Kibbe of California and he indicates ownership by the state of California in 1849 during the goldrush. The inventory card further states thatthis rifle was obtained in 1939 from Bannerman’s by William A. Gary. The barrel shows 40% to 60% original finish going to patina with some minor beginning rust and slight erosion. The lock is sharp with strong traces of case hardening goingto a gray. The stock is very good plus to near fine with sharp edges and no appreciable losses along the sides of the ramrod channel. The stock is well marked with W.C. K. behind the side plate and no other marks or proofs. There is an extranipple within the patch box and an original to the period ramrod is retained. The Eagle marking on the lock are super sharp and the rifle is very crisp overall. William A. Gary collection consigned by his estate Est.: $5,000-$10,000
