Harpers Ferry 1816 Percussion Rifle
Harpers Ferry 1816 Percussion Conversion that is believed to be an Indian Trade Rifle. The barrel was cut down and measures 27.5" and there are only two bands. The barrel still bears the "V / P / Eagle". The lock plate shows the Federal Eagle over US abd is marked "HARPERS FERRY 1831" at the rear. The rifle is dressed with solid brass trade tacks on both sides of the butt, wrist and forend. The wrist is wrapped and stitched with animal skin. The side of the stock has "S.C." carved into it... possibly South Carolina? The action functions as expected. The stock has some cracks and repairs but it is solid. An interesting piece from a local estate that speaks of several possible courses of history. This rifle has seen its fair amount of use and shows its age but proudly bears the marks of what could be an interesting history that we may never know. Antique.
