Hardy, (Thomas)<P>. 16-line A.L.S. to Stanley Lane-Poole. Dated 6.1.89 from the Savile Club, London. The noted orientalist, Lane-Poole, has written to Hardy commenting favourably upon the US edition of "Wessex Tales". In his reply Hardy says: "I resign the Shepherd to you willingly - I have had my say about him and I hope he will fall into better hands". [See Purdy, vol. I: p. 184]. (1)
