Kolbe, G. Frederick. NUMISMATIC LITERATURE. MAIL BID AUCTION SALE NUMBER ONE. Mission Viejo, Feb. 28, 1976. 8vo, original red cloth, gilt; original printed card covers bound in. (2), 54, (4), (4) pages; 763 lots; prices realized list bound in. Fine. The hardbound edition of George Kolbe’s first sale, issued in very limited numbers for presentation purposes (as were all of his hardcover editions through 1986, excepting certain special offerings). Kolbe’s catalogues, taken as a group, represent the finest numismatic literature catalogues ever produced. Fewer than 30 copies of this initial auction sale were thus bound. While modest in comparison to his later sales, this initial offering amply demonstrated Kolbe’s comprehension of the subject at this early stage of his career.
