The color lithograph on wove paper shows vertically aligned abstract shapes that are located on a ground of areas in red, white and gray. The graphic was published in 1974 as an edition of Erker Presse in St. Gallen.
The lithograph in colors is signed lower right in pencil ‘Hartung’ and lower left numbered in pencil ‘22/75’. The sheet is in very good condition. The image measures 64.5 x 86 cm, the sheet measures 75.3 x 104.6 cm.
Hans Hartung (1904-1989)
Hans Heinrich Ernst Hartung was born in 1904 in Leipzig. He worked as a painter and graphic artist. As early as a teenager he turned to the non-objective painting. In 1924, he began studying art history and philosophy at the University of Leipzig. After living in Menorca and in Paris, he received the French citizenship in 1946. After the war, Hartung became one of the most important representatives of the informal art. He exhibited several times at the documenta and at the Venice Biennale in 1960. Hartung's works often recall to the Chinese ink painting. (fea)
