Hand-Written Menu For A Luncheon At Duke & Duchess Of Winsor Estate - A rare and wonderful piece of history. "Le Moulin de la Tuilerie" was the former weekend home of Edward, Duke of Windsor and his wife, Wallis Simpson. Theirs was one of the greatest love stories of the 20th Century, when in 1936, Edward VIII renounced his "Kingship" of the British throne in order to marry, Mrs. Simpson, an American Divorcee. Of course this caused his brother George to be forced into the position. King George VI was the "stuttering" King who not only didn't want the "job", but was terrified to speak in public. This was made famous in the 2010 Multi-Oscar winner (including Best Picture) "The King's Speech". However this rare set of items, are not from any movie, but from real life. They are two unused match boxes from the home of "Moulin de la Tuilerie", plus a hand written menu on the Windsor's official stationary, for a luncheon held at the famous estate in the 1950's and given by the Duke and Duchess of Winsor. The "Dejeuner" Menu and the matches were given to American matinee idol Van Johnson and his wife Evie, who attending this famous affair. it comes from his personal collection and includes a letter of Provenience from his daughter.
