Handwoven Navajo Style YEI RUG, Age Unknown. This is a large classic southwest wool tapestry that measures 6' Long x 4' Wide. It is in Very Good Condition. Yei (pronounced "yay") is the Navajo name for the benevolent supernatural beings who bring their healing power to medicinal sandpainting ceremonies still performed today. The Yei-be-chai Rug portrays a line of dancers, shown from the side and often with one foot raised as though in a synchronized dancing motion. The patient for whom the ceremony is being held is shown facing the procession. The medicine man and "Talking God" often lead the way, a clown is often shown at the end of the line. *We as the auction company are not going to get into a protracted discussion about age and authenticity. This collector has no paperwork or COA as to age or authenticity. We are wholly uncomfortable with an argument with qualified and unqualified, alleged authorities.
