Handmade and high quality Victorian copy of a Scottish Snaphaunce belt pistol, .38 cal., 11” iron cannon barrel, engraved iron mechanism, engraved brass lock plate, butt plate, belt hook, ramrod ferrule and trigger area inset; wood stock. This finely-made work of art shows a grey patina and some scattered spots of erosion and pitting on the iron barrel, the engraving on all lock and accent parts is exquisitely accomplished with a “1620” dated engraving on the bolster end; the action is good, the wood stock is overall very good with scattered nicks and mars from years of storage; brass tipped iron ramrod retained. An outstanding piece that we would date as Victorian era in spite of the above-noted dated part with expertly accomplished engraving on the brass parts and chiseling on the iron. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
