Handlan Railroad Rare Caboose Lantern c. 1930-40's
For your consideration in this lot is a Handlan St. Louis Railroad Caboose Lantern with four amber lenses that has been converted to an electric light that dates to the circa 1930-1940's and is likely from the Chicago, Milwaukee, St. Paul Rail Road. The Handlan-Buck Company of St. Louis was one of the premier suppliers of railroad lamps, lanterns, and other hardware. Tracing a corporate history back to 1856, the company was both highly respected and patronized by railroad companies, with its strongest markets being the Midwest and West. The company was particularly known for lighting devices that used combustible fuels like kerosene. This lantern has been converted to electric and now has wiring and a light bulb fixture inside. From the handle is a chain and the electrical cord that is twelve feet long. The light measures 19" tall to the top of the handle and measures 30 1/2" around.
