This impressive, colorful Engraved Print has important early, 18th Century views of New York City as viewed from the Hudson River on the southwest. In the skyline you can see several prominent buildings include from the left, Trinity Church, the Lutheran Church and the New Dutch Church. On the right is a British Man-O-War Galleon firing her cannons and flying its huge Union Jack Flag. Originally published in 1778, the engraving in this auction is from and was printed off, the Original Copper Plates, being is a 2nd strike, which was printed in the early 20th Century. You can see the actual impression of the plate edges within the heavy paper. This engraving has been properly Hand-colored in watercolors. Including the margins this engraving measures 13” x 19” and comes sealed under glass with archival double mat and 20.5” x 26.5” modern wooden Mahogany frame.
