Hand written and signed letter from Josephine Earp wife of famous lawman Wyatt Earp dated July 28th , 1924 to Mr. Flood with envelope addressed to John H. Flood Junior, Los Angeles, California post marked Oakland showing cancellation stamp July 28th , 1924 sealed on back and in pen W. Earp and Oakland address. Mr. Flood was the Earp’s business secretary and family friend. This is a four short page letter with one large page letter folded around the smaller pages to fit in the envelope. The letter is written on both sides and is containing an angry text concerning stories written about Earp in a Hearst newspaper. Josephine mentions that George Hearst came to Wyatt and his brother Virgil asking for protection from some of the Tombstone thugs when he was going out to look at a mine and that Hearst had sent him a nice pocket watch. Josephine goes on to say that she cannot believe that a person professing to be a friend would tell such lies about Wyatt. The Hearst newspapers were known for sensational journalism at the time known as “yellow journalism”. Est.: $2,500-$5,000.
