Hancock & English: A Rare Large Jugate Poster, The Companion Piece to the Adjacent Garfield & Arthur. In all categories of campaign items, those endorsing the candidacy of Winfield Scott Hancock are scarcer than those for the victorious Garfield. Possibly this may be explained by Garfield's assassination after just months in office. It might be presumed that any odd campaign items still lying about suddenly became relics when the president died, and were safely tucked away. This is particularly true with posters and other large display items. The present example, however, seems to have been equally valued, as it is clear that the two jugate posters were carefully stored away together. Neither has any wrinkles or folds whatsoever, but both have the trivial small corner stains, suggesting that they were lying one on top of the other when whatever moisture caused these minor defects left its mark. Like its Garfield-Arthur mate, it features outstanding black and white lithography. We can only hope that a single astute bidder will choose to buy both lots, so that these two will not have to be separated after over 125 years together. Measures: 28" x 21".

Shipping: Large Flat (view shipping information)
