Playwright (1880–1958) who adapted Dracula as a stage play from Bram Stoker’s novel in 1924; his successful play led to the story’s rise in popularity, inspiring future adaptations, including the 1931 film classic. ALS, one page both sides, 7 x 9, February 22, no year. Letter to Miss Murray, in part: “I can quite understand you being a bit ‘fed-up’ with weekly ‘Rep,’ and not wanting to return to it; if you can avoid doing so. The only thing is that, as you have no doubt sized up by now, there seems to be at the moment a deplorable lack of any other working ‘going’…However, as you seem determined to get-out of Rep if you possibly can—I am enclosing you a little list of reputable agents, some of whom you may not have contacted, and I would suggest giving them a trial—they are all known to me, and you can mention my name if you like.” Deane adds a brief postscript, “Kind regards to Mrs. Joyce—when you are in touch with her.” In fine condition, with central vertical and horizontal folds (vertical fold passing through a single letter of the signature) and trivial creasing.
