Hall Patent model 1843 breech-loading percussion carbine manufacture by Simeon North, dated 1850. .58 caliber rifled bore, in good original condition. Metal surfaces show light cleaning to a grey patina withgood sharp markings and edges. Stock good with some small dings, mars, normal imperfections, and slight losses. Initial’s “N.D.*” carved into the stock. With ramrod, action good, bore. Note: The Hall CarbineAffair was an incident in which financier J. P. Morgan purchased carbines surplus from the government for $3.50 and were resold to the government for $22.00 before shipping to John C. Fremont. The rifling was done by New York gunmaker W.W. Marston, and though all parties were eventually cleared, Fremont was relieved from command. Both the 2nd and 9th Illinois were armed with such carbines. The forend shows one bad crack by the frontbarrel band. Est: $1,250 - $2,500
