<B>Half Plate Civil War Tintype (Krainik 12),</B></I> ca. early 1860s, housed in a rare thermoplastic case embossed on both sides with “The Holy Family”, <I>Krainik 12</B></I>. A young soldier of indeterminate loyalty wears a seven-button sack coat beneath a white scarf that was no doubt knitted by one or both of the young ladies with whom he is here entangled. It would seem that the women are the soldier’s sisters since he sports no wedding band. The scene decorating the case comes directly from a 1515 Raphael painting in Rome.
