Half Eagles 1848 PCGS MS62

Half Eagles 1848 PCGS graded Mint State 62. Mint luster has taken a light rose-sunset iridescent glow, highlighting surfaces which show minimal minute contact marks and only scattered light hairlines. Strike quality is good, though Miss Liberty's hair curls below the coronet and the arrow feathers just below the shield lack full definition, as is normally encountered on this date. Obverse die breaks are beginning to develop in several positions. A rather large break extends from the beads holding Liberty's hair to the top of the second 8, and another fine crack connects 848 near the bases. Yet another drops vertically from Liberty's chin into the field below, while another fine crack does through the sixth star, branching to still another fine crack that goes diagonally from the tip of the coronet to the rim just above. The die is recognized by Breen as #4 in his monograph of half eagle varieties and comments on it rarity in such a deteriorated state. This coin has a lot of character and eye appeal, and is a wonderful Mint State example representing the No Motto half eagle type. Estimate $1,900.00-$2,400.00
