Half Eagles 1795 B1-A SE PCGS MS62

Half Eagles 1795 Breen 1-A. Small Eagle. PCGS graded Mint State 62. Wide date. First star low. Reported by Breen to be part of the "First Group" of die combinations. Remarkably well struck, particularly on the obverse, where all of Liberty's features are razor-sharp and the surrounding stars show exceptional detail. Reverse features are nearly as well defined, with only a bit of softness at the highest points of the eagle's head, breast and upper left leg. This classic half eagle retains bright, fresh mint luster, accented with a touch of rose iridescent toning. Adjustment marks are virtually nil, limited to a well concealed fine lines location within Miss Liberty's hair strands and hardly worth mentioning. Contact marks are minimal and unobtrusive.

Mint records reveal that 8,707 half eagles were coined in the late summer of 1795. They have historic, as well as, numismatic import as the first gold coins minted at the newly established Philadelphia Mint, preceeding the striking of the ten dollar denomination. Estimate $40,000.00-$55,000.00
