Spoof award presented to Hal Foster from King Features, the syndicate that ran his popular ''The Legend of Prince Valiant'' comic strip. Award was presented to Foster at a ''Natal Day'' party, celebrating the ''birth'' in the comic strip of Prince Arn. Award dated 31 August 1947, reads in part, ''For Prince Arn...This Ship Which Drake May Have Sailed...Goes to HAROLD FOSTER, God-Father of the First White Child Born in America on this, his Natal Day...'' The Natal Day photo album of the event is located at Syracuse University's Special Collections Library, which also stores Foster's papers and many original Prince Valiant pages. Award measures 11.75'' x 16.75''. The rubricated gilt design and seal remnant pay homage to the strip's medieval time period. Chipping to frame paper backing, else near fine.
