Set in the days of King Arthur, "Prince Valiant" was a stirring saga of knights and chivalry. Foster always held his fans in high regard; when he received a letter from an eager admirer, it was common for Foster to cut a panel from a recently published strip and enclose it with his reply. Thus, many individual panels have survived the ravages of time, as in the example offered here. Measuring approximately 8.75" x 10.5" overall, the piece was originally inscribed, "To Carl Robie, with best wishes, Hal Foster". The signature and inscription faded over time, and someone has written, "To Carl Robie from Hal Foster" over the original. It is our belief that the original inscription and signature are authentic Foster, while the overwriting was done by another hand. In any case, this is a superb example of Foster's meticulous draftsmanship, and an affordable specimen for any Foster fan. <B>Estimate: $500-up</B> </FONT></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE></TD></TR></TBODY></TABLE><BR><!--<a name="PricesRealized"></a> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="0" cellpadding="0" bgcolor="#000000"> <tr> <td width="100%"> <table width="100%" border="0" cellspacing="1" cellpadding="3"> <tr> <td width="100%" bgcolor="#79735C"> <a name="PR"> <font face="arial" size="3" color="#FFFFFF"> <b>Previous Prices from Heritage Auctions</b> </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#F6F6ED"> No Prior Data Recorded </td> </tr> <tr> <td bgcolor="#FFFFFF"> <font face="arial" size="1""> PLEASE NOTE: All prices realized reflect the final hammer price PLUS the buyer's premium in auctions that charge a buyer's premium.
