<td width="100%">
Robert St. Brice was one of the very few first generation Haitian painters who was totally unique. His brand of voodoo expressionism straight from his psyche is totally unique and powerful. So much so he was the inspiration or father of the Saint Soleil genre that is in such demand today, but still no one painted like St. Brice. This painting has appeared in several books on Haitian Art. It was part of the Georges S. Nader Collection and was acquired by the previous collector in 1990 from Monsieur Nader. It is oil on canvas and is 24 inches by 20 inches. This painting of a red spirit emerging (victorious?) from the psyche is a dramatic piece of work by this inspired painter who is the essence of the Naive painter. It is signed on lower right and the year "83" is inscribed. NOTE: This is possibly the most published, prolific painting by Robert St. Brice. It truly belongs in a museum.
