This auction is for an original Haitian Painting in Oil on canvas by the artist Claude Dambreville. The painting is 20"x16 and is circa 1980. It has had only one owner and the painting was purchased in PAP from the artist in the early 1980's. It is in its original artist frame for a total measurement of 21"h x17"w.

The glare on the pictures is due to the flash.

About the Artist: Claude Dambreville was born in Port-au-Prince on December 17,1934. Claude Dambreville studied drawing and painting at the School ABC in Paris, at the Art Center, and with his father in-law, the late haitian artist Pétion Savain.

He is renowned for using flat colors, "strong light and deep shadows" particularly to depict his favorite subject - women of the markets. Dambreville's paintings have an esthetic value that immediately catches the eye of the viewer. Dambreville is a well-known haitian painter around the world. He was sponsored by President and Mrs. Mitterand in shows in Paris and in Nime in 1991. His collectors include, aside from the Mitterands, Pierre Cardin and Denzel Washington.
