HSC: Rhoderick Bobby Wallace Signed ALS Letter PS
1958 Rhoderick "Bobby" Wallace Handwritten Letter. His career in baseball spanned sixty seasons, beginning as a pitcher for the 1894 Cleveland Spiders, then twenty years as an infielder for the St. Louis Browns and Cardinals, before finally doing time as a Big League manager, umpire and scout. Yet despite this lifelong love affair with our national pastime, Wallace is notably absent from most quality Hall of Fame collections. This is likely due to the fact that he took his last swings of the bat in 1918 at age forty-four, and aside from a reappearance as manager of the 1937 Cincinnati Reds, he never wore a ballplayer's uniform again. Most folks just didn't ask for autographs from umpires and scouts. Regardless of the reasoning, we're pleased to offer this rare opportunity to fill that empty space in your line-up, and to fill it with something even more special than a simple autograph. This brief note, written on the blank side of an index card, kindly responds to an autograph request, though he notes that the delay in response is due to a wrong address from the collector. All ink and the closing "R.J.W." signature is in Wallace's hand. Also included is the original mailing envelope, also filled out entirely by Wallace, with the return address bearing a signature of sorts with a handwritten "R.J. Wallace" above his P.O. box and city name. Tape stains at the corners of each piece are the result of having been affixed to a scrapbook page, but these do very little to detract. All ink is a genuine 10/10. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
