Early 1930's Grover Cleveland Alexander Signed House of David Exhibit Card. He lived one of the hardest lives in baseball lore. Deafened by artillery shells in World War I combat, and locked in a lifetime battle with epilepsy and alcoholism, G.C. managed to become both one of baseball's greatest stars and one of its most tragic tales. Once lamenting "They gave me a tablet up at the Cooperstown Hall of Fame, but I can't eat any tablet," Alexander ultimately died penniless and alone in a St. Paul, Nebraska rooming house. This rare and valuable exhibit card dating from Old Pete's 1931-36 tenure with the bearded House of David (Alexander was the only player allowed to shave) is inscribed in the Hall of Fame inaugural classman's 10/10 fountain pen, "To my Friend George Hanlan from GC Alexander." Having essentially disappeared from the public eye following his 1939 Hall of Fame induction, Alexander rates as the toughest autograph from that first Hall of Fame grouping. Rarely does an autographed piece of this quality surface in a public forum. Heavy card stock piece measures 4.5x6.5" and displays exceptionally well. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
