Circa 1890's Ike Weir Signed Cabinet Photograph. Irish Ike Weir was a Bantamweight known as "The Belfast Spider" who immigrated to the United States before starting his pro career. His first recorded fight was on May, 28, 1886 in Boston. His last recorded fight took place on March, 17, 1898. The record of the bouts in between are some what sketchy. Here's what we do know: he fought for the World Featherweight title three times, drawing twice and losing once. He split a pair of fights with Torpedo Billy Murphy, who is generally recognized as the first Featherweight Champion of the World. This vintage photo shows Weir donned in vintage 1890's attire. Weir has penned several lines of text on the verso, though three and a half of these lines have been mysteriously removed. Left behind is the 10/10 black ink inscription, "I am 19 years old and 4 months in this picture, I. O. Weir." There is some edge wear, rounded corners and tack holes at the top and bottom. The image remains crystal clear and the photo displays very well.
