HSC: 1996 Oscar de la Hoya Fight Worn Shoes 1996
1996 Oscar de la Hoya Fight Worn Shoes. Oscar's pretty boy face and his ability to keep it that way while inflicting damage upon his opponent's has made him one of the biggest stars in the boxing game, though it's quite rare to see any of his fight worn gear on the auction block. We intend to do our part for those anxious to own a piece of the magic with the presentation of this heavily worn pair of shoes dating from a particularly productive time in de la Hoya's career. In fact, these may well be the shoes de la Hoya was wearing when he turned the great Julio Cesar Chavez into a bloody mess in Las Vegas before forcing the referee to come to Chavez' rescue and stop the fight in the fourth round. The shoes show fantastic wear, and were originally sourced from the collection of former IBA Vice President Bob Case whose included letters of authenticity note that de la Hoya made a gift of them to Case in 1996 at his Big Bear, California training camp. One of the two letters further states that they were used in the fight prior to this training session, though it does not specify which fight this was. Each shoe was signed and dated "96" by Oscar in perfect black sharpie in Case's presence. The size nine shoes still bear the "Pony" manufacturer's logos, but it's evident that other decorative labels of some sort have been since removed, leaving behind glue outlines where they had once been. They still display wonderfully nonetheless. LOA from Craig Hamilton/ JO Sports. Additional LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
