1977 Reggie Jackson Game Worn Spikes. Mr. October gained the nickname with his performance in that month of 1977, when his five home runs and .450 batting average in the World Series helped to earn the team its first Championship in fifteen years. This pair of spikes dates from that incredible season, showing absolutely tremendous wear and leaving little doubt that these were the shoes that carried Reggie around the bases on a good percentage of his thirty-two free round trips. Customizations abound, from the razor slashes in the left toe and right upper instep to perfect the fit, and the faded vintage number "44" in marker on each heel. Encrusted clay and grass still clings to the spikes on the sole. Size and manufacturer's markings have not withstood the exceptional wear, but those few doubters should be entirely reassured by the included copy of Sports Illustrated's May 2, 1977 issue which features a cover shot of Jackson sporting this exact style (and quite likely these shoes specifically). Finally, Jackson has given this pair his blessing with a NRMT gold paint pen signature on each. Heavily worn Reggie spikes from his greatest season with a Sports Illustrated cover photo match? It doesn't get much better than that. LOA from Dan Knoll & Dave Bushing/ SCD Authentic. Additional LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
