HSC 1970's George Halas Signed Letters Lot of 3 P
1970's George Halas Signed Letters Lot of 3. Trio of typed letters on fantastic Chicago Bears letterhead was mailed to noted football author George Sullivan, and are packed with intriguing gridiron content. 1) Two-page letter dated January 5, 1971 sings the praises of Hall of Famer Sid Luckman. "What impressed me most about Sid, from the first day he was with us, was his complete dedication." 2) Two-page letter dated August 22, 1972 discusses Paddy Driscoll. A great anecdote is related about Red Grange's debut with the Bears against Driscoll's Chicago Cardinals. Driscoll would punt the ball away from Grange to prevent a long return. "The crowd (which wanted to see this great all-American runner) booed loud and long. Grange never had a chance for a return. After the game, when Paddy was driving home with his wife, he remarked: 'What a shame that crowd had to boo that nice young fella from Illinois...he's a great halfback and it's dreadful that he should have to be booed like that.' Mrs. Driscoll replied: 'Paddy, I don't want to hurt your feelings...but that crowd was booing YOU not Red Grange." 3) Single-page letter dated September 26, 1974. Discusses the 1920 Decatur Staleys, adopting the name of the Chicago Bears in 1922 and Paul Brown's Ohio State teams. Each letter is signed in perfect blue ink at the close, and all pages remain in NRMT condition. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
