HSC: 1969 Mel Stottlemyre Game Worn Yankees Jerse
1969 Mel Stottlemyre Game Worn Jersey with Topps Photo Match. The star right-hander took it to the finish line a League-leading twenty-four times this year, leaving the silver and bronze for Complete Games to 1969's co-Cy Young Award winners Denny McLain and Mike Cuellar. Fine pinstriped flannel from this Yankee legend's fourth All-Star season shows spectacular wear, not surprising for a season featuring over 300 innings of work. Classic "NY" logo over heart gives way to number "30" on verso, and Stottlemyre's surname is embroidered onto a swatch sewn inside the collar. The important M.L.B. Centennial patch still resides on the left sleeve, and "Spalding [size] 42" and washing instructions tagging with affixed "Set 1 1969" flap tag frame an embroidered "69" in the tail. Team repair on the front is further testament to the active life this jersey led that historic summer. A team number change is apparent on verso, but the jersey shows no alterations or restoration otherwise. Adding a final bit of intrigue to this special artifact is its appearance on Stottlemyre's number 27 card of the 1970 Topps Supers set. The configuration of the pinstripes in relation to the "NY" logo on the chest leaves no doubt--it's an exact match. A high-grade specimen of the card is included in the lot. LOA from Dan Knoll & Dave Bushing/ SCD Authentic.
