HSC: 1942 Babe Ruth Signed Postage Stamp PSA/DNA
1942 Babe Ruth Signed Postage Stamp. An intriguing piece deriving from the famous collection of Albert Edward Kelly, an early collector who took the hobby of acquiring autographs by mail a unique direction by requesting that signers place their autographs upon postage stamps that he supplied. From Amos and Andy, to Walt Disney, to Albert Einstein to Helen Keller, Kelly was able to amass an incredible collection of these colorful keepsakes, usually tailoring the subject matter pictured on the stamp to the profession of the signer. Such is the case with this magnificent Babe Ruth specimen, signed on a Philippine Islands stamp certainly inspired by the famous baseball Tour of Japan, which boasted the Babe as its main attraction. Though the stamp dates from the year of the Tour (1934), we can definitively date the autograph itself to 1942, as the included return envelope bears a postmark from June of that year. The black ink autograph on the stamp is bold, black and perfect, and the stamp itself is equally fine. LOA from Steve Grad & Zach Rullo/ PSA DNA.
