HSC: 1941 Babe Ruth Worn Baseball School Jersey 1
<B>1941 Babe Ruth Worn All American Baseball School Jersey.</B></I> Arguably the most coveted artifact in the sports memorabilia collecting hobby is the Babe Ruth game worn jersey, but those immutable laws of supply and demand place the price tag on the few known specimens well out of reach of all but the most well-funded hobbyist. There is hope, however, for those among us who desire the shirt off the Bambino's back and still to keep a roof over our heads in the process. This white cotton pullover shirt derives from the wardrobe of the greatest name in the history of American sports, worn as Ruth passed on the vast breadth of his knowledge as hitting instructor for the traveling clinic-style baseball camp for aspiring young ballplayers in 1941. An elegantly chain-stitched "Babe Ruth" adorns the right chest pocket, as if the Babe needed any introduction, with the year of "1941" balancing the shirt on the left. In large script on verso are the words "All American Baseball School." Handwritten inside the collar is "R-Do," with the "Service Garment Co." label directly below. While time constraints have kept us from tracking down a photo match of Ruth in this shirt, it most certainly does exist--the Babe barely went a minute without being photographed--so we're certain that the winning bidder will be able to locate one with a small amount of effort. Then imagine the display--this historic shirt mounted on a mannequin torso beside an enlarged photograph of the legendary Bambino, dressed to teach. Ex-Halper Collection.
